Kettlebells for CrossFit

Kettlebells are great conditioning tools and just plain fun to use. Over the last few years, manufacturers have gotten pretty good at making high quality inexpensive kettlebells, so it’s not necessary to spend a fortune on what is essentially a hunk of iron with a handle. There are a few important things to look for in a high quality kettlebell for CrossFit: 1) Flat, even bottom for stability while doing pushups, 2) Wide handle for getting two hands in there for swings, 3) Smooth handle, no rough edges to tear up hands, 4) Texture for preventing slippery grip when sweating.

Two Recommended Kettlebells

The MuscleDriver Black Series, and Gray Series Kettlebells. These are essentially identical except for the markings (KG vs LB), and the texture. The Black series kettlebells have a slightly rougher texture great for holding chalk, while the gray series has a slightly smoother texture for those of you who prefer that. Either one is great for CrossFit and they’re both priced about as cheap as you can get for a quality kettlebell. Both are available at Rep Fitness here.
