Reviews of CrossFit Equipment

Our goal at GymX is to provide you with awesome reviews of equipment for CrossFit. There’s a lot of equipment out there to choose from, and it’s tough to know what’s worth the money and what isn’t. Until now, you had to find anecdotal evidence and random opinions scattered across the Internet to figure out what might be good gear for CrossFit. We’ve partnered with Rep Fitness to show you video reviews of the products you’re interested in, with more being added all the time.

What Kind of Equipment is Used for CrossFit?

If you’re just getting into CrossFit, you may have noticed they use a pretty wide range of equipment. Gear like barbells, bumper plates, kettlebells, gymnastic rings, wall balls, and jump ropes can be found in any CrossFit box. Then you’ve got the more exotic things like sleds, tires, GHDs, and anything else that could possibly be used for strength and conditioning. If you’re building a home gym, stick with the basics and add the exotics later on if you have the funds. A good bar and plate package along with a kettlebell, pull-up bar, some rings, and a jump rope will allow you to do tons of killer CrossFit workouts for around $1k.

What CrossFit Equipment Should You Spend the Most on?

We always recommend spending the majority of your money on a good barbell. No matter whether you stick with CrossFit for life, or quit in a few weeks, a good barbell is going to be useful for the rest of your life anytime you lift weights. The other reason it’s important is because a poor quality bar can easily bend when you drop the bar with bumper plates, or over time just from normal use. A bar made of high quality steel like the ones we recommend in our videos will last a lifetime and never need to be replaced if you take care of it.

The other equipment we recommend for CrossFit is a good set of bumper plates. You can do all of the Olympic lifts, plus use them for power lifts and everything in between. Spend enough so that you won’t have to re-order more plates later on because you almost always get a good deal on shipping if you buy a set of bumpers, so save up enough to buy everything you need the first time.
